Two first half goals consigned Ossett Town to a 2-0 home defeat to Warrington Town in the Evo Stik Division One North.
Scott Metcalfe and Chris Gaghan struck for Warrington to keep Ossett looking over their shoulders at the wrong end of the table.
Ossett started well with Nathan Curtis forcing a good save out of Warrington goalkeeper Karl Willis and club captain Steve Jeff also went close.
The home side were hit by a sucker-punch on 36 minutes. Nick Wood was deemed to have brought down Warrington forward Metcalfe and South Yorkshire-based referee Chris Ward pointed to the penalty spot.
Metcalfe sent Ossett goalkeeper Brad Dixon the wrong way from the spot kick.
The goal-scorer provided the assist for the second goal on the stroke of half-time with a pass that allowed Gaghan to round Dixon and score.
Ossett received a bit of a boost when Warrington were reduced to ten men. Ossett midfielder Richard Patterson walked away with a bloodied nose after Warren Beattie caught him with his elbow.
Referee Ward produced the red card, but Ossett did not take advantage and the visitors held on.
