Dave Anderson admits it has been an “absolute nightmare” recently as Barton Town Old Boys hope to return to Toolstation NCEL Premier Division action tomorrow.
Barton have not played for a full month since the 4-3 defeat to Cleethorpes because of the bad weather – a repeat of a similar situation last season.
Barton are due to travel to Maltby Main tomorrow and Anderson said: “It has been an absolute nightmare and frustrating, but the lads have been absolutely fantastic (during the last month).
“We have arranged friendlies and every man in the squad has had some game time.
“Last season the mistake we made was we ended playing on 3G pitches.
“It just gives you the wrong kind of football because the lads get used to passing the ball around.
“When we games started playing on pitches we came unstuck. We’re looking forward to Maltby tomorrow and hopefully we can start again.”
Barton have also signed Lawrence McKay from Evo Stik Divison One South strugglers Brigg Town.
Anderson said: “He can play anywhere across the back four and provides much needed competition for places.
“Having had spells at both Rotherham and Doncaster he can certainly play a bit and his background and hunger fits perfectly to the type of player that we look to bring in.”
McKay is in the squad to face Maltby. Barton are without suspended Gareth Barlow and injured Alex Sherwood.
