Paul Marshall hopes the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division promotion race remains tight and there isn’t a repeat of the way Brighouse Town won the title last season.
Tadcaster’s dreams of glory were denied by a Brighouse side that romped to finish line after series of heavy wins in their midweek games-in-hand.
Tadcaster, Cleethorpes. Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Worksop Town are the candidates to win the crown this season
Marshall said: “We have to look after ourselves and four or five teams can still win the league which has always been the case and I don’t see it changing.
“We’ll drop points and so will they. There is no way that all these teams can win every game because they all have to play each other.
“I just hope all the teams (in the league) carrying on paying their money and keep going right to the end of the season.
“That’s a problem because a lot of teams cut their budgets and start getting rid of players.
“That’s the problem with our league with one going up. As soon as you can’t win the league, people cut their budgets and I’ve seen it before and I’ll see it again.
“It happened when Brighouse won the league and it could happen again. Shaw Lane have a lot of midweek games and they are going to take teams apart on Tuesday night when teams have nothing to play for.
“It is going to be tough, but we have to carry on.”
Tadcaster make the trip to Maltby Main tomorrow and Marshall added: “It is always tough and they have a difficult pitch to play on.
“They know it better than most because it is their home ground.
“I had it at Harrogate Railway because I knew to play the slope and that’s why we did so well.
“Quite often at Maltby it is better playing up the hill. It is always a battle and Mick (Norbury) will have them set up to rough us up and stop us scoring.”
