Ossett Town’s two-game winning run came to a shuddering halt after losing 4-1 in a mud-bath at Droylsden in the Evo Stik Division One North.

But, there was plenty of controversy. For starters, the game was lucky to go ahead after a torrential downpour.

Ossett got off to a bad start as Droylsden’s Michael Monaghan was able to score from close range.

Ossett hit back and Nathan Curtis broke through before being brought down inside the penalty area as he beared down on goal. Controversy followed as the offender Ben Hampson only received a yellow card, despite the foul appearing to deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

To add insult to injury, Sam Akeroyd’s penalty was saved by Droylsden goalkeeper Craig Ellison.

Monaghan added a second on the stroke of half-time and it was left to the veteran Ciaran Kilheeney to put the game beyond Ossett’s reach.

Curtis got Ossett’s consolation before Ben Deegan wrapped-up Droylsden’s win.
