Tony Hackworth wants Pickering to finish on a strong note

Tony Hackworth wants Pickering Town to finish on strong note and is urging his players to make their pitch to be involved next season.

Pickering have a chance of finishing in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division top ten under Hackworth, who replaced Mitch Cook in November.

Former Leeds United striker Hackworth, whose side host Handsworth Parramore today, told Non League Yorkshire: “I have set my own target (of where I want to finish), I’m not going to say what it is.

“I’ve told the players where I expect us to finish and how strong I expect us to be.

“I said to them that we are fighting for our futures, that’s me included and all the players know that.

“I hope Tuesday night will springboard us on to more points.

“It is plain to see that we need to strengthen the squad and that’s something I’ll be looking to do in the summer.

“We have a nucleus of a decent squad, but it will be my job to try and bring one or two others in to give it a good go next season.

“I’ve given the club an idea of the direction I want to go in and the type of players I’m looking for and hopefully they’ll back us in that department.”

Pickering’s 4-2 win at Nostell Miners Welfare in midweek ended a run of two straight defeats.

Hackworth’s side were comfortable winners and he added: “It was a great result and it was exactly what we wanted.

“It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t nice at times.

“There was plenty of passion and I have played here many times before so I know what you get.

“You get hard work sides and teams in your face. I knew exactly what it was going to be like and it was what I thought it would be.

“There were some good goals, especially the fourth one and we have players who can do that.

“Its my job to get that consistency and get it out of them week-in-week-out which is something we struggle to do from one week to the next.”
