Craig Elliott says Shaw Lane Aquaforce have a clear path to their goal of winning the title

Shaw Lane Aquaforce Craig Elliott has set his sights on winning the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title.

Aquaforce’s magnificent FA Vase run came to an end on Saturday after the 3-1 extra-time defeat to Glossop North End.

The focus now turns to the battle for top spot. Shaw Lane have six games in hand on leaders Worksop Town – who they play on Saturday – which could take them eight points clear at the top.

“If we had have got through it would have been difficult because we would miss two more Saturdays,” he said.

“Reflecting on the Vase, it has been terrific. The next part of the story is 17 games to try and win the league.

“We have a very clear path to our goal and we have got to get our heads down to give it our best shot in the league.

“It will be difficult. We’re capable, but we still have a lot of difficult games to come.

“Take this week. It is a difficult week. We have Pickering away and I’m sure they are glad it went to extra-time on Saturday. We have a lot of heavy legs and a few knocks so

“We then have Worksop, who went top on Saturday, on Saturday.”

Elliott intends to add one player to his squad in time for the trip to Pickering as he builds the rest of his team for the run-in.

But, his current side have earned lots of plaudits during the Vase run with wins over teams such as West Auckland and Shildon.

Elliott added. “I’m really proud of the lads.

“I know they are disappointed. I’m disappointed, but they have done well.”
