Paul Lines wants his resurgent Nostell side to close in on their survival points target of 30
Let’s finish the job, that’s the message from Paul Lines, manager of resurgent Nostell Miners Welfare.
Nostell are on the brink of securing their Toolstation NCEL Premier Division status for next season after a magnificent run of five wins in eight games.
A trip to Cleethorpes Town is the first of their last ten matches tomorrow and three points would move them one victory away from Lines’ survival target of 30 points.
Lines told Non League Yorkshire: “It is in our hands.
“I don’t see it as just finishing above the bottom two, I want to finish comfortably.
“I want to prove to everybody that we aren’t just a team that has just survived or just getting by.
“I want to be in mid-table and we’re good enough.
“We’re nearly at the 30 points mark. That’s the target, but I do want to finish higher.
“If we get to 30 points ahead of schedule, realistically why not look at 40?”
A last minute penalty from Dave Bordman earned Nostell a 2-1 win over Handsworth Parramore in midweek.
It was a remarkable win considering that Lines had to field a patched-up team.
Talisman Rob Bordman was ruled out because of concussion, while James Davies was suspended and other were missing because of work commitments.
Lines added: “We’re getting strength in depth now. The side we put on Tuesday night was under-strength.
“Matty Johnson went in at right-back when he played left-back on Saturday.
“Dave Dennison came back in at left-back after only playing his first game last week.
“Matty Thompson went in midfield and obviously James Kitson was a bit of an unknown quantity.
“It was a massive win because Handsworth are obviously a decent side.
“Peter (Duffield) and Mick (Godber) have a well- disciplined and well-organised side and they have quality players in there.
“It was going to be difficult. Our continuity was broke up from Saturday because people were working or injured so we brought new players in.
“Billy Mole was magnificent. For a young kid, he did absolutely brilliantly against some good quality players.
“I would have been happy with a point.
“We have been picking points up on a Saturday so we needed to start picking up points up during the week so I’m really pleased that we have made a start.”
