Sanchez Payne scored on his Ossett Town debut as John Reed’s men completed the double over Lancaster City in the Evo Stik Division One North.
The 2-0 victory was even remarkable because Ossett took a patched-up team over to Lancaster.
Work, injury or suspension had ruled out several players and the day got off to a bad start because of a broken down coach.
Whilst, Brad Dixon had to make a couple of good saves, Ossett were on top for a lot of the game.
Town opened the scoring with 20 minutes remaining, Dave Merris’ corner was taken down by Payne, signed on Friday from Frickley, and he shot through a crowd of players to score.
Poor defending from Lancaster allowed Ossett to seal the win with Joe Brennan taking full advantage.
The win all but secures Ossett’s status as a Division One North team for next season and another marker of the huge progress that the young Town team has made in two months.
