Harrogate Railway returned to winning ways after two second half goals from Malachi Farquharson earned them a 2-0 win over doomed Padiham.

The Evo Stik Division One North clash was a tight affair in the first half, but the second half was an improvement.

Padiham had to go for broke to keep their slim hopes of avoiding relegation alive and Railway goalkeeper Tom Goodwin prevented Bobby Langford from putting them ahead.

This was the turning point as Farquharson was then hauled to the floor by Sean Davies.

Farquharson stepped up to score the penalty himself and then sealed the points with a strike from the edge of the area.

Harrogate Railway manager Billy Miller:

“It was a potential banana-skin. We went to Padiham not so long ago so they know a lot about us and we knew a lot about them.

“I’m glad to come through and get three points.

“They are a difficult side to break down. They work hard for each other and for the manager and they have a threat upfront in Brett (Ormerod).”

Harrogate Railway: Goodwin, Armstrong, Kidd, Heath, Coates, Mycoe (captain), Youhill, Thirkell, Farquharson, Bromley, Baker. Subs: Morgan, Ibrahimi, Martin-Farina, Hunter, Triumbari.
Referee: Aaron Bannister
