Alan Colquhoun has admitted that he has been “hurt” by Liversedge’s alarming slump in form which dragged them into the relegation dogfight.
The surprise 1-0 win at title contenders Shaw Lane Aquaforce was their first success in eleven Toolstation NCEL Premier Division games.
With the situation unclear on how many teams will be relegated, Liversedge were dangerously close to second-bottom Retford United.
‘Sedge, who face Bridlington Town tomorrow, are now nine points above the crisis club.
Colquhoun reckons three more will ensure their survival and he said: “Normally we would have lost that game (the visit to Shaw Lane) 2-1, 3-1. I said to them that they need to get up for every game.
“We have gone to Barton, Handsworth and won, but we need to do it against the lower-ranked teams.
“We have taken one point from Nostell, taken one point from Retford, one point from Glasshoughton and it has not been good enough.
“The main thing for Liversedge now is stay in the Division.
“I know I said mid-season that the way things were going that we could possibly finish mid-table, but we’re nowhere near.
“It has been very disappointing and personally it has been. It has hurt. I thought at the start of the season with the people we had we would have done better.
“We have been unable to score in games. We have created chances and we have been punished at the other end.”
Colquhoun also praised his team for their efforts in the victory at Shaw Lane.
Andrew Wood’s first half goal gave them something to cling onto and they defended heroically in the second half.
Goalkeeper Sam Dobbs also saved a goal-bound effort from Lee Morris in the sixth minute of added time.
Colquhoun said: “No matter who we were playing we needed three points.
“Retford were only six points behind us and we hadn’t won for eleven games.
“We have had some poor results and to be fair you didn’t expect to come to Shaw Lane after their loss to Worksop and getting a 1-0 win. But it was fantastic performance.
“We have needed a bit of luck.
“We defended outstandingly from the goalkeeper, defenders and strikers and created a few chances.
“Dobbs pulled off some saves and then in the 96th minute he has won us the game with a save from a shot that was going in the top corner.
“That aside I thought every man including the lads who came were outstanding and we have to take it into Saturday now and get something out of the Brid game.”
