Paul Foot has rallied his Scarborough players ahead of the crunch match with Bamber Bridge
Paul Foot has rallied his and Bryan Hughes’ Scarborough Athletic troops ahead of the showdown with Evo Stik Division One North play-offs rivals Bamber Bridge.
Scarborough, who occupy the last play-offs spot, can go level on points with fourth-placed Bamber if they win at Queensgate.
Joint manager Foot said: “Four games ago we knew it was going to be an important game.
“If we win it kicks us on for the play-offs.
“On Tuesday (against Farsley) when we went down to 10 men, but still got a result, it was a superb effort.
“Near the end the lads started believing and we could’ve even won that game. If they believe the same way against Bamber we can definitely do it.
“The season on the whole is going really well.
“We’re quite lucky to have a set of lads that are very hungry for it. They want every game to come thick and fast and in the next few weeks we’re playing a lot of the top five.
“If we beat them we can really push on.”
Foot and Hughes have enjoyed a great start to life as the bosses at Scarborough.
The pair were appointed as Rudy Funk’s permanent replacements at Christmas and things such as their away form has changed dramatically.
Six of their seven away wins this season have been under the pair this season.
Foot said: “Since me and Bryan took over it has certainly picked up and it’s all down to the mentality.
“Bryan has got his wealth of experience and I’ve always wanted to win everything from my time at Ferriby.
“That’s a good mix. We’ve really got a good professional attitude, and we don’t really have banter before games, we are all really focused on winning.”
Foot could have a chance to pick up another trophy to add to his fine array of medals from his playing days.
The Seadogs face Middlesbrough in the Semi-final of the North Riding Senior Cup on Tuesday 31st March.
He added: “Again going back to me as a player, I wanted to win everything, of course we want to win it.
“It breeds a good mentality. A lot of clubs rotate in the County Cups and we’ve tried to do that, but we’re going to play our first team as we want to go as far as we can.
“Yhey will probably play a youthful team, but there’ll be no mugs in that team. It will give us a tough test against a good side.”
