Hull United manager Curtis Woodhouse said he is “absolutely delighted” to be playing his former side Hull City in the East Riding Senior Cup semi-final tonight.
The Citizens have exceeded expectations in their first season as a club in the competition and Woodhouse’s men are raring to go for the biggest game in their short history
The 34 year-old said: “The lads are absolutely delighted, but to be honest we haven’t really spoke about Hull City at home as I just wanted to get the two big games in Sculley’s (Sculcoates Amateurs) and Crown out of the way.
“I’m absolutely delighted for the lads, it’s an occasion we can really go and enjoy and if we win we’re in the final and it’s going to be really really difficult because they’ve got a fantastic side.
“I played them this pre-season when I was at Goole and they beat us 6-0 and I think Goole are 4 or 5 leagues above where we are now so I think it’s going to be a really tough game for the boys.
“On our day if we turn up and give 100% and come off the field tired I won’t have a bad word to say about it.”
Woodhouse has enjoyed his short time at the club already alongside Ian Ashbee since leaving Goole earlier this year.
He added: “I enjoy being in a job that is a project I’d like to call. I think we’ve got a long term plan, like I say the club want to be in the Football League and they want me and Ian to drive them towards that.
“I’m enjoying it and I’m really excited. We’ve just got a new scholarship scheme so I’ll be working here full-time, but like I say it’s great to be at a football club that shares my vision.”
Hull United face Hull City U21 in the first Hull derby at the Roy West Centre at 7pm.
