Ossett Albion’s solid season in the Evo Stik Division One North continued with a 1-0 win over struggling Prescot Cables.
The first half of this match was a non-event really due mainly to the strong gusty wind and the torrential rain. Neither side managed anything like a shot on target and it was a relief when the referee David Sullivan blew his whistle for the interval.
The second half was better as the wind and rain had eased and the teams could start to play football.
It was the home side that had the better of the play and Connor Bower made some telling runs at the Prescot defence. From one of these he got his shot on target which was saved by Ben Morrow in the Prescot goal. The rebound was just out of the reach of Kane Reece who was following up.
Prescot mounted a few attacks and one ended with a rasping shot which went just over the Albion cross-bar.
Albion continued to press and a corner kick by Luke Sharry skimmed off the head of the hard -working Nicky Matthews and Adam Jones was unable to reach it as it shot across the goal.
The introduction of Adam Muller and Connor Brunt from the bench gave fresh impetus to the Albion attack.
A good run down the right saw Brunt cross the ball into the centre where Connor Bower crashed the ball goal-ward.
The Prescot goalkeeper did well to save that one, but two minutes later he made an error which cost Prescot the points.
A good move from Albion finished with a shot from Connor Brunt which squirmed under the goalkeeper’s body and into the net to the delight of the home supporters.
A couple of minutes later Brunt could have doubled his tally and his team’s lead. He set off on a twisting run on the left side of the pitch beating at least four Prescot defenders, but he was unable to find a finish to match the run.
