Stocksbridge Park Steels’ bid to secure their Evo Stik Division One South survival took a hit with the 6-0 defeat at runaway leaders Mickleover Sports.
But, Steels can’t sulk as they have a big game with Sheffield FC tomorrow and then another league game on Wednesday against Norton United at Bracken Moor.
One more win should guarantee their Evo Stik status for next season as Rainworth can only reach 38 points and they would have to win all last four games to get there.
To be fair to the Steels, the match was always going to be a tough ask as Mickleover are almost certain to win the Division. Mickleover’s win extended their unbeaten run to 13 games and secured their place in the play-offs.
A mistake from Steels goalkeeper Sam Andrew enabled veteran striker Gary Ricketts to put Mickleover ahead.
Stocksbridge had a good period of pressure as Brad Grayson had a shot saved and the Steels also had a chance cleared off-the-line.
But, two quick-fire goals on the stroke of half-time from Karl Demidh and Nico Degirolamo killed them off.
The afternoon was made even worse for Stocksbridge in the second half when Jacob Hazel and Callum Lloyd (2) scored.
