Wayne Benn says Hemsworth Miners Welfare need to replicate their performance at AFC Emley seven more times – starting at Hallam tonight.
We’re into the final countdown in the Toolstation NCEL Division One and surprise package Hemsworth are amongst the contenders.
The Wells are fifth and nine points behind leaders Pontefract Collieries with two games in hand following the superb 3-0 win at AFC Emley on GroundHop day.
The victory completed a great response from Hemsworth, who are unbeaten in five games after two consecutive heavy defeats.
Looking back at the losses and the response, Benn told Non League Yorkshire: “We had a dip and we lost a bit of confidence.
“We lost the unbeaten run against Louth and deservedly lost on the day.
“We lost a bit of belief, but you have to remember that this is a very young side.
“Once as confidence gets affected it becomes difficult.
“We got back on track with a brilliant win at Hall Road and that’s as well as we have played all season.
“On a Tuesday night with fog rolling in on a bumpy pitch, we were absolutely phenomenal and that gave us our confidence back.
“We had a good result against Mansfield, who are a very strong side.
“Last week was disappointing against Penistone because we dominated the play and had all the chances.
“To come with a 0-0 draw was killer, but we put that right on Saturday and we’re still in there fighting.
“We’ll kick on and try to continue winning games and we’ll see where it takes us.
“Our chances of winning promotion are better than they were before winning at Emley.
“We still have a bit of ground to make up and still got games in hand, but it is not easy having games in hand at this time of the year.
“Games are coming thick and fast during April and we haven’t got the biggest of squads so fatigue and getting team selections right is going to be key.
“We have tough games like everyone else, but if we can show the same appetite as we did at Emley then hopefully we can be right in there in the last two or three games.”
