Shaw Lane Aquaforce boss Craig Elliott is not getting over-excited about the possibility of going top of the table tomorrow night.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce can go top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table for 24 hours tomorrow night, but the main aim is making sure the winning run continues.
That’s the view of Craig Elliott, whose side entertain Maltby Main after the match was brought forward from Saturday afternoon.
A Shaw Lane victory would take them one point above leaders Worksop Town.
“We’re at the stage of the season where performances go out of the window,” Elliott said.
“We have done (put performances in) that all season. We have shown our consistency and we’ve shown that we are a good team.
“It is about winning games. It doesn’t matter that how well you do it. The aim is go top tomorrow night, but there are still a lot of games to play.
“I’m not going to get too-excited about whether we go top or not and I mean that genuinely.
“There is still a lot of football for us and teams around us. It is just another game on our journey.”
Aquaforce manoeuvred themselves into a position to overtake Worksop with a hard-earned 3-2 win over Garforth Town on Saturday.
Garforth lived up to expectations by leading twice, but Shaw Lane scored twice in the second half to earn the three points.
Elliott said: “On paper they were both difficult home fixtures, especially on Tuesday night because history tells you that Garforth are good against the top teams.
“They frustrate teams and being behind twice you start thinking it is another night for Garforth.
“That’s why you have to put it down to a great result rather than great performance because it was a tricky game for us.
“A lot of our rivals will have seen that and got a bit excited when they were winning twice.
“To come back and win you have to give the lads credit. I had some choice words at half-time and rightly so because we were nowhere good enough, but they responded second half.”
Danny Frost got both second half goals – his first for Shaw Lane since his return on transfer deadline day.
Elliott said the striker had demonstrated the reasons why they chose to re-sign him from Bradford (Park Avenue).
“That’s why we signed him and players like that are signed to make a difference in vital moments,” he said.
“That’s what he did. He had a quiet first half and I expected more from him, but he came out for the second half with the right attitude.
“He scored his two goals and I thought he was brilliant. He really ignited to step up the tempo and he was clinical.
“That’s what it is about and you sign these good players to give you these moments of class and I thought his second goal was a really good goal.”
Elliott should have a full squad to choose from as Shane Kelsey is back from a three-match suspension.
Anton Foster is expected to be fit after missing the win over Garforth with a groin strain.
