Barton Town Old Boys manager Dave Anderson has urged his side to hold their heads up high despite their slim Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title chances being finished off last week.
Now he wants them to cause problems for the contenders – starting at Worksop Town tomorrow afternoon.
The 3-0 defeat to Cleethorpes Town on Good Friday put pay to their chances of glory. It was remarkable that Barton were still an outside bet considering their poor opening to the campaign.
Anderson told Non League Yorkshire: “We’re going to have a big say in it now to say who wins it.
“We’re as good as out of the title race now but to be honest it was an almost impossible task anyway.
“We’re going to try and push for top four now and that’s still going to be a big ask, but I don’t want the lads to let their heads drop even though we have little to play for really.
“It will be nice to see how we compare against the likes of Worksop and Taddy, who we beat earlier this season, so next season we can set the benchmark.
“Ultimately we’ve been made to pay for a poor start to the season and four weeks of inactivity have crept up on us.
“But we’ve just got to keep moving forward now and start planning for next season. If we hit the ground running early next season who knows where it could take us.”
