Shaw Lane Aquaforce are back at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division – or for a least until Worksop Town play this afternoon.

The pressure is on Worksop following Shaw Lane’s 5-0 hammering of Maltby Main last night which propelled them to the summit for the first time since September.

Against a team that they beat 11-0 in January, it was a stroll in the park for Shaw Lane, whose five goals all came from tap-ins.

The Maltby defence could not cope with the Aquaforce frontline. Danny Frost’s break and cross allowed Chris White to score at the back-post.

The rest of the first half was frustrating for Shaw Lane as the Ducks just could not add the killer second goal.

White hit the post and so did Frost from close range.

Eventually Maltby’s bow broke straight after the interval. If any Worksop fans were holding candlelight vigils outside Sandy Lane then their hopes of a shock result were well and truly over.

Gary Stohrer was the provider for a simple tap-in for Frost at the start of the total dominance.

An own goal from Tom Coker added further woe for Maltby.

The introduction of Joe Thornton provided more bite to Shaw Lane’s attack and he was soon involved in the fourth goal.

Lee Morris blew a sigh of relief after ending his recent goal drought by rolling the ball into the empty net – his 30th goal of the season, days after missing a couple of sitters against Heanor.

Thornton completed the rout in the dying minutes.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce manager Craig Elliott:

“I’m genuinely don’t look at it as going top, I look at it that we are back in the mix.

“A few weeks ago we looked at it and thought can we win those games in hand? We have done so we’re back in the mix.

“Whether we’re second, third, it doesn’t matter as along as we stand a chance and that’s all I wanted.”
