A last minute goal condemned Ossett Albion to a 1-0 defeat at already-relegated Padiham in the Evo Stik Division One North.

The first half was a poor affair with Albion hardly able to mount a serious attack. Their passes often went astray and they hardly troubled Sean Davis in the Padiham goal.

Padiham, on the other hand, seemed fired-up by their recent victory over Clitheroe and made Brett Souter, in the Albion goal work hard at times. After a poor half, the sides went in at the interval with the score at 0-0.

The second half had an explosive start when within a minute, Kyle Harrison, the Albion right-back, was shown a red card for a hard tackle.

In the resulting fracas, several players could well have been booked for raising their hands in retaliation but no other action was taken after a consultation between the referee and his assistant.

Being reduced to ten men seemed to spur the Albion players into action and they raised their work-rate and brought several good saves out of the Padiham goalkeeper.

Adam Jones dropped into a central defensive role and Luke Sharry began to control the midfield. Padiham responded and the game became more open with the play switching from end to end and both sides began to create half-chances.

The last 15 minutes saw both teams make substitutions in an attempt to find the vital opening. Albion were pushing hard to find a winner but they were leaving gaps at the back and Padiham began to look dangerous on the break.

With the game heading into added time, Padiham were also reduced to ten men when Curtis Daley was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Strangely enough it was at this point that Padiham made the telling breakaway. The ball came to Daley Woods on the left side of the area and he gave Brett Souter little chance as he fired his shot across and into the top right corner.

This brought an ecstatic reaction from the Padiham bench and soon afterwards the referee blew his whistle for the end of this disappointing match from Albion’s point of view.

Ossett Albion: Souter; Harrison, Hardaker; Clayton, Milnes (Reece), Jones, Taylor, Sharry, Muller (Grech-Brooksbank) Bower, Brunt (Walker).
