Lee Swift made up for his red card in midweek by coming off the bench and scoring the decisive goal for Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their important 2-1 win at Rossington Main.
The victory sets up it up nicely for the make-or-break showdown with front-runners Pontefract Collieries on Tuesday night.
Hemsworth have to win to keep their Toolstation NCEL Division One promotion hopes alive, while three points for Pontefract will put them within touching distance of the Premier Division.
The message was the same for the visit to Rossington yesterday and the Wells got off to a great start.
Young defender Jack Steers’ header was cleared off-the-line, but fortunately the eagle-eyed assistant referee had spotted that it had crossed it.
Hemsworth had plenty of chances to double their lead with Nick Guest and Robbie Crapper going close.
Ultimately, with eight minutes to go, Hemsworth’s prodigal son Swift redeemed himself by drilling a strike into the bottom corner – days after his red card at Hallam for kicking out.
Rossington’s experienced striker Lee Holmes created late drama with a header, but Hemsworth held on.
