All eyes are on the Fitzwilliam Stadium tomorrow night as one of the biggest games of the season is taking place.
A crunch local derby between Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Pontefract Collieries could give the biggest hint yet as to who will fill the Toolstation NCEL Division One promotion places.
A only a win will do for Wayne Benn’s exciting young charges.
Pontefract know that a victory would leave the door open for them to secure promotion at Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Saturday.
Pontefract are not getting carried away though, as joint boss Duncan Bray testifies.
“We have four games left and I want us to win all four and get to the 97 point mark,” he said.
“It is a big week, but we have four games left.
“We have one at home and three tricky away games and we need to take each game and keep playing as we have been doing.
“I’d like to win promotion as quick as possible, but if we have to go to Hallam (a week tomorrow) and get a win, that’s what we’ll do.
“We’re only worried about what we have to do. I’m not interested in setting a target, I want to go into every game with the mentality that we can win it.
“People’s mistakes in this league come from complacency and assuming that they can turn up and win.
“People on Saturday thought we would beat Knaresborough four or five-nil
“We were losing to Grimsby at half-time so they are no easy games. We’re not taking anything for granted because if we don’t play well, we can get beat.
“We have to play our best against Hemsworth, that’s for sure.”
A huge crowd is expected at Hemsworth for the match and Bray does expect a great occasion.
He added: “I went to watch to Hemsworth last week at Emley and it was the best away performance I have seen this season.
“Hemsworth were absolutely superb and it will be a good game.
“There will be a great atmosphere because they always get a good crowd there and it will be a great game.
“There’s plenty of interest in it as there always is.”
Kick off is 7.45pm and the referee is Adam Smith from South Yorkshire.
Very enjoyable game, and Ponte. just deserved the 3 points. 2 Points from 9 will do it for promotion.
