Radcliffe Borough won away from home for the first time this season with a 1-0 win at Harrogate Railway with the help of a controversial free kick.

The victory keeps Radcliffe in the driving seat of their battle to avoid relegation from the Evo Stik Division One North.

Railway were far from the side that spectacularly won at Spennymoor on Monday and for only the third time in the league this season, Billy Miller’s men failed to score.

Referee Michael Brownsett didn’t win many plaudits either after dishing out eight yellow cards in a clean contest.

Brownsett’s decision-making was also called into question for the winning goal in the 64th minute.

A harsh free kick given against captain Jason Mycoe, who was even yellow carded, for handball allowed Jack Hindle to fire at goal.

Tom Goodwin saved the effort, but Sam McMahon followed in and scored the only goal of the game.

Harrogate Railway: Goodwin, Armstrong, Hunter, Heath, Coates, Thirkell, Youhill, Mycoe (captain), Farquharson, Dhesi, Baker. Subs: Kidd, Bromley, Hickey, Wood, Parkes.
Referee: Michael Brownsett
Attendance: 107
