Players from Leeds United’s past will be turning out at Farsley’s Throstle Nest for a match in aid of former captain Brendan Ormsby tomorrow afternoon.
Ormsby, who has managed Pontefract Collieries, suffered a stroke in December 2013.
A Leeds legends team will take on a side assembled by current Plymouth Argyle manager John Sheridan, an ex-team-mate of Ormsby’s.
Money raised will be spilt three ways – The Stroke Association, Speak Ability Care and towards Ormsby’s own care.
World Cup referee Howard Webb will officiate some of Leeds’ greatest players such as Nigel Martyn and Gary Kelly.
One player looking forward to the game is FC Halifax Town manager Neil Aspin, who remains a popular figure at Ellland Road from his time there in the 1980s.
He said: “It is few and far between playing football matches for me, but for anything involving a former team-mate I always turn out.
“No matter what level of fitness.
“It will be nice to see some old faces and let’s hope it is a good occasion.
“For a good cause like this I’m only too happy to show my support.
“Hopefully there will be a good turnout because there is a lot of ex-players who are going to play and it is all because Brendan was very popular as a player.
“Obviously he has been very unfortunate to have suffered a stroke so anything we can to help then we’re glad to do.”
Online tickets sales have closed, but Farsley are still selling on the gate for the game which kicks off at 1pm.
