Knaresborough Town will not have to play their abandoned Toolstation NCEL Division One clash with Winterton Rangers again.
Winterton were leading 2-1 when referee Robert Woodburn bizarrely brought a halt to proceedings two minutes into second half stoppage time after a mass brawl broke out.
At the time, Knaresborough manager Brian Davey described the decision to be abandon the game as “ridiculous”, claiming that the brawl was “handbags” and “over within ten seconds”.
An NCEL statement said: “Taking into account that the individuals concerned have been reported to the appropriate County FAs, both clubs will be charged following the incident, the fact that neither club wishes for the match to be replayed and that the outcome of the game does not affect promotion or relegation places, it has been decided that the score at the time of the abandonment, 2-1 to Winterton, will be taken as the final result.”
It is unlikely that the decision will set a precedent because 90 minutes were actually played.
