Tadcaster Albion have control of second spot in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table after beating a young Staveley Miners Welfare side 5-0.
Worksop Town can claim it back if they beat Barton Town Old Boys tonight – a must-win game that Worksop have take three points from to keep their title hopes alive.
But, Tadcaster will have a game in hand of their rivals as they also bid to continue to fight Shaw Lane Aquaforce for the title.
In-form striker David Brown set Tadcaster on the path to victory with a cool finish.
Brown was then fouled in the penalty area and Liam Ormsby’s spot kick had too much power for Staveley’s goalkeeper.
Tadcaster added a third when Josh Barrett was hacked down and Ormsby scored a second penalty.
Tadcaster continued to attack their visitors in the second half. Josh Barrett hit the crossbar before Ingram scored the fourth goal.
Calum Ward put the icing on the cake.
Tadcaster Albion manager Paul Marshall:
“We’re a strong team who were at home playing against young lads, who were very good.
“5-0 probably flattered us, but we did create a lot of chances and their goalkeeper was outstanding.
“He made some great saves, but they were a bit lucky with a few which hit the crossbar.
“They were a decent side for an under 21s team.”
