Karl Rose hailed his players after Frickley Athletic completed a memorable seven days by reclaiming the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.
Less than a week since winning their survival battle in the Evo Stik Premier Division, Frickley beat Nostell 4-1 to win the Senior Cup at Rotherham’s New York Stadium.
Rose told Non League Yorkshire: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“Nostell were always going to give it a big go and we knew we couldn’t estimate them.
“The five minutes were always going to be a battle, but once as we got the first goal very early doors I thought we dominated the rest of the first half.
“At 2-0 we were cruising, but it is a fantastic goal from their lad which made a game of it. Fair play to them because they gave a real good go and it was a good game.
“It was only when the third and fourth went in that we could really relax and enjoy it. We stuck to the game-plan, had numerous chances and were ruthless in taking those chances.
“I’m delighted for the supporters and the directors of the club.
“It has been an up and down season and at times it is difficult following Frickley.
“But, this week we have stayed after playing fantastically well against Curzon and got the result we needed. To then come to a stadium like this and win is fantastic.”
Nostell manager Paul Lines was disappointed his side could not pull off a major shock.
He felt the controversial penalty close to half-time finished off hope of a comeback after Rob Bordman had pulled a rabbit out of a hat with a magical goal.
Lines said: “I’m proud of the lads because over the season we have done fantastically well since we got together.
“We got bullied tonight, but we started really brightly. There was a bit of confusion between two defenders for the first goal and then it was an own goal for the second.
“We were up against it straight away. Rob scored a fantastic and it was nip and tuck at 2-1.
“I thought the third goal was really unjust. The penalty made it 3-1 and it killed us.”
