Armthorpe Welfare have appointed Ben Muirhead and Ryan Watson as player/assistant managers to Brian Johnston.

The pair step up from the ranks to take up the combined roles at the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side.

Former Manchester United youngster Muirhead has played for a variety of Non League clubs including Alfreton Town, Farsley Celtic, King’s Lynn, Harrogate Town, Retford United and Buxton.

He also played in the Football League for Bradford City and Rochdale.

Watson is hugely-experienced in the NCEL world from spells at Askern Villa, Tadcaster Albion and Selby Town.

Muirhead and Watson both played for Armthorpe last season and helped them starve off the threat of relegation, despite the club operating on a shoestring budget.

Johnston and his new assistants are hoping to build on that in his third campaign at the helm.
