Toolstation NCEL clubs are gearing up to vote on the proposal to introduce play-offs in Division One.

The vote takes place at the league’s annual general meeting at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough on Saturday.

If passed, there will be three relegation spots in the Premier Division next season. The two automatic promotion spots would remain the same in Division One with the third being decided by play-offs involving the teams placed from third to sixth.

For the plan to be approved, two-thirds of clubs present would need to vote in favour.

The proposal is widely supported. AFC Emley manager Darren Hepworth, who actually suggested the idea at the start of the 2014-15 season, remains a supporter.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare manager Wayne Benn said: “It is 100% the right way to go as it keeps the interest in the league going for longer.

“I hope it happens and I think it will get the two-thirds majority.”
