Bradford (Park Avenue) were too good for Toolstation NCEL Division One side Yorkshire Amateur during the 6-0 win at Bracken Edge.

The Ammers were always facing the impossible against an Avenue side that is predicted to do well in the National League North under new manager Martin Drury.

Ammers’ task was made even harder by the absence of three of their star players – Joel Hughes, Harrison Blakey and Craig Heard.

A positive Phil Harding and Rick Addy’s men can take from the defeat is Danny Hull’s debut and Glen Wood’s return to Bracken Edge after one season away.

The home side competed well in the opening quarter, but Avenue’s superiority soon came to the fore.

Adam Clayton, back at Avenue after almost 12 months out injured, rose high to head home the opening goal.

Two goals in quick succession close to half-time put the game beyond Ammers’ reach.

A superb cross from Chris Howarth teed up George Grayson for a cool header at the back-post.

A poor clearance then allowed Richard Marshall to roll the ball into the net for the third goal.

Just like Selby Town earlier in the week, Avenue boss Drury changed his entire first half line-up and the likes of well-known striker James Walshaw arrived on the field.

He was a constant thorn in the home side’s defence as he caused numerous problems.

Michael Potts got the score-sheet before Walshaw was fouled in the penalty area and stepped up to convert the spot kick.

The former Guiseley and Ossett Town striker then drew jeers from the crowd after making a mess of a second penalty. He tried a cheeky chip, but it went wrong and Ammers goalkeeper Surwara Bojang managed to catch the ball.

The scoring finished in the closing stages when Potts ran through and slid the ball home neatly.
