Refs to be strict on touchline conduct

Referees are likely to clamp down on bad behaviour on the touchline this season

Referees are likely to clamp down on bad behaviour on the touchline this season

Non League football managers have been warned that bad behaviour on the touchline will not be tolerated this season.

It is understood that the Professional Game Match Officials Board have instructed Premier League officials to be strict on ill-discipline in the technical areas.

The advice will soon filter down the pyramid so out of control managers and coaches are expected to be dealt with severely by referees.

The conduct of managers and coaches on the touchline across Yorkshire, bar a few exceptions, is generally regarded as good.

Behaviour in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League has dramatically improved since the introduction of a rule that means that sent off managers cannot watch the rest of the respective game.

In the three Evo Stik Leagues last season, there were only a few incidents on the touchline involving coaching staff from Yorkshire clubs.

One particular manager was removed from his dugout and later banned on two separate occasions because of his conduct.

Two other clubs had their respective assistant managers dealt with by the FA over reported misconduct.
