Worsbrough Bridge gained a credible 1-1 draw against higher league Garforth Town.

Garforth were on course for their third straight pre-season victory until Joe Long’s late equaliser.

Like a lot of friendlies, chances were at a premium – but both sides were extremely organised.

Worsbrough, now under the new management of Mark Joyce, defied their Toolstation NCEL Division One status to cause Garforth problems.

Bridge would have taken a first half lead if Garforth defender Jassim Alali had not made a goal-saving block.

Garforth’s chances in the opening 45 minutes fell to Mark Simpson and Danny Harris. Simpson’s effort was saved by former Hallam goalkeeper Christian Bark. Harris’ goal-bound attempt required an important block.

An inspired half-time substitution by Graham Nicholas made Garforth the dominant side in the second half.

Sinmi Oyebanji was a real handful for the home side as he was dictating the game. His efforts were soon rewarded when he scored a brilliant goal.

The winger played a neat one-two with Callum Pilkington and then struck a low drive into the corner of the net.

That appeared to be the winner until Ollie Green’s deep free kick found an unmarked Long.

The defender was in acres of space inside the six-yard-box so he had a very easy job of slotting the ball past goalkeeper Dom Smith.
