Trialist B, otherwise known as former Shaw Lane Aquaforce striker Danny Frost, struck twice as Spennymoor Town beat Tadcaster Albion 3-2 at the i2i Sports Stadium.
Frost is expected to sign for the Evo Stik Division One North side following his recent departure from Shaw Lane Aquaforce.
The chances of that happening are very high in a game that Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side Tadcaster actually led briefly in.
Jimmy Beadle was awarded the goal after the ball trickled over the line after hitting the post.
Spennymoor responded straightaway as Shane Henry sent a thundering free kick into the top corner past goalkeeper Gary Stevens.
The game changed in an instance as Frost then broke the offside trap and lobbed Stevens for his first goal.
The striker quickly added his second goal with a low strike after once again breaking the Tadcaster defence.
He could have even had his hat-trick if Stevens had not made a good save following a mistake by – ironically – Frost’s old Aquaforce team-mate Joe Thornton.
Tadcaster reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time with Matt Heath heading home from a Liam Ormsby.
That proved to be the final goal as Spennymoor kept Tadcaster out in the second half, despite some big efforts.
Tadcaster Albion manager Billy Miller:
“I think you have got to be pleased with the performance.
“Spennymoor are a great side and a great benchmark. When you look at their journey it is not too dissimilar to the journey that we would like to embark on.
“They won the Vase, then won the league and then went really close last year in the Evo Stik.
“I think they will be one of the teams that will be up there this year in the Evo Stik.”
