Glasshoughton drew 1-1 with Frickley
Life at Frickley Athletic after Reece Thompson began with a 1-1 draw at Glasshoughton Welfare.
A late Steve Palfrey equaliser ensured Glasshoughton gained a credible draw against their Evo Stik Premier Division opponents at Leeds Road.
Frickley were in lively form straight from the first whistle. In the first few minutes the dangerous Luke Hinsley shot just over the bar and then Royale Johnson hit a shot wide.
A free kick into the Welfare penalty area bounced off Adam Walsh into goalkeeper Ellis Halpine’s hands.
Walsh then, slipped whilst trying to shield the ball away but but Hinsley shot wide. Luke Hornsey forced a good save from Halpine before welfare came back with a shot by Palfrey going wide and then Josh Prudhoe scuffed a shot across the goal.
After 20 minutes welfare had a lucky escape when defender Jack Kirk slipped. The ball reached Tyler Williams whose fierce shot was deflected.
Welfare were not so lucky on 28 minutes. A shot from 25 yards by Hinsley hit the Welfare bar with Halpine beaten and Louie Penty headed the rebound in.
Once again Welfare came back and a 20 yard shot by Palfrey forced trialist goalkeeper Seb Malkowski into a good save.
Just before the break Prudhoe put Danny Cawley through but Malkowski just managed to block the ball.
The second period was quite uneventful although the visitors Jameel Ible headed a couple of corners just wide. A shot from substitute Chris Wood went just wide and Johnson had a good chance when breaking into the left of the area, but failed to control the ball.
Welfare equalised in the 80th minute. Danny Snaith played the ball into the Frickley area and Palfrey shot under the goalkeeper.
Just before the end the hosts could have won it when Palfrey chipped the keeper but the ball fell just over the bar.
