Harrogate boss Simon Weaver believes finishing in the top six would be a real success
You won’t hear Simon Weaver make any bold claims about Harrogate Town’s aims for the new Vanarama National League North season.
Weaver begins his seventh campaign at the helm of Harrogate and he believes the Division is arguably the strongest it has been.
Hopes are high among Town supporters, but Weaver is being realistic and is putting no pressure on young charges ahead of the opener at Brackley Town.
“Well, it is going to be tougher than ever before so we’re just going to try work our socks and finish as high as possible,” Weaver told Non League Yorkshire.
“If we can get in the top six then it would be a real success.
“It will be tough to do that because all the clubs in our league have strength in depth.
“The quality of the teams that have come into the league have made it stronger.
“Teams like Fylde have also strengthened as have Stalybridge. On paper there is not many weak outfits.
“I don’t want to go overboard because we have had some good wins in pre-season, but we have gelled well and we need to do it when the pressure is on in the league.
“If we get off to a good start then there’s no reason why we can’t do really well.
“But, we’re staying level-headed. We don’t come out with outlandish comments at our club.”
The 2013 play-off runners-up await Harrogate on Saturday and Weaver expects a mammoth task for his troops.
He added: “They have a lot of money thrown at them this year and a lot of their players from when they were a force have come back.
“It is going to be an immense challenge, but if we can take something from the game it will be a great achievement.”
