New Harrogate Railway signing Jack McCarthy played for Garforth in the West Riding County Cup final

Highly-regarded centre-back Jack McCarthy has signed on the dotted line at Evo Stik Division One North side Harrogate Railway.

The news ends a summer of speculation about McCarthy’s destination after a memorable season with Garforth Town.

The defender originally started pre-season with the Class of ’92’s Salford City until travelling made a move there unfeasible.

He also tried out at Matlock Town until agreeing to move to Station View.

McCarthy is also joined by former York City and Tadcaster Albion striker Ollie Smith.

The pair are two of many new faces at new-look Railway, who are now managed by Lee Ashforth.

Among the players arriving at Station View and have not been previously revealed on Non League Yorkshire include Charlie Clamp, Jordan Outerbridge, Dan Barrett and James Beaston.

Beaston is a former Glasshoughton Welfare player, who played at Leeds Road during the Graham Hodder and Rob Hunter eras.
