There will be no promises from Selby Town manager Dave Ricardo ahead of the new Toolstation NCEL Division One season.
But, he has plenty of admiration for his current squad, who have led Selby to some brilliant results over pre-season.
Selby kick off the season at relegation candidates Winterton Rangers and Ricardo says the main focus is on improving.
Ricardo said: “This time last year I think I said top six or top four was a minimum aim and for a few reasons we didn’t get that.
“What I will say is that this season is about carrying on the natural progression from Christmas last year when we got a group of quality players who were willing to work for each other.
“We put together a string of results in the last 12 or 14 games that if we had done that all season then we would have been top four.
“We just want to continue the form which we started eight months ago.
“The club want to get promoted and so do I, but it is baby steps. We made some gains last season and we have a group of players that are willing to work.”
