Alfreton Town have signed Handsworth Parramore striker Sam Smith ahead of their opening National League North fixture at Bradford (Park Avenue).
Smith, a star graduate of the successful Handsworth youth set-up, has been training with Alfreton throughout pre-season.
He worked his way up from their U18s team to become a key player in their Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side.
The 22-year-old scored 34 times last season and his final act as a Handsworth player was the dramatic last minute winning penalty in the incredible League Cup final victory over Cleethorpes.
He leaves as an example of what can be achieved by young players at Handsworth – that club that prides itself on development.
Club Development Manager Steve Holmes said: “It’s a great move for Sam and were all delighted for him that a chance higher up the pyramid has come his way.
“He’s been with us for nearly six years and has progressed year on year and last season under Peter Duffield helped him progress with his move higher up the pyramid.”
