Dave Ricardo’s Selby Town carried on where they left off in pre-season with the 4-0 hammering of Winterton Rangers on the sun-kissed opening day of the Toolstation NCEL Division One season.
Plenty of chances had come Selby’s way before the deadlock was broken in the 35th minute because of a penalty. New Selby striker Kingsley Wetherald was the player fouled and Brent Leister stepped up to score.
Selby added to the lead on the stroke of half-time. Liam Stonehouse’s provided the assist and Danny Bunch sent a low shot across the goal and out of the reach of the Winterton goalkeeper.
The visitors sealed their victory late-on. Debutant young striker Keane Parsons, discovered by Ricardo in a local league in East Yorkshire, scored a simple tap-in with his second touch after good work from Will Ramsay and Martin Jones.
Struggling Winterton’s day became a further nightmare as they were reduced to ten men following comments made to referee Andrew Brown.
Selby put salt into the wounds in the last minute as Leister scored a second penalty.
