The main priority for Farsley Celtic and Neil Parsley is to right the wrongs from the end of last season.
Farsley won just one match from their final 12 Evo Stik Division One North games which saw them falter from the brink of the play-offs to 12th spot.
Play-offs have been on the agenda for Farsley at the start of a season for the past few campaigns, but Parsley initially wants to see an improvement.
“We all know how disappointing it was to see the season fizzle out and in such an alarming fashion,” Parsley told Non League Yorkshire.
“For what reasons, I have my own assumptions of why it happened.
“It knocked the stuffing out of me because I didn’t see it coming in February when we were three or four points off the play-offs with games-in-hand.
“I didn’t envisage how we did in the last ten games so it is something that we have to address and we want to better last season
“It is going to be a competitive league again and there are some big clubs in there.
“We have lost Salford and Darlington, but Witton have come in and they’re a big club.
“There is also the likes of Warrington, who probably under-achieved last season.
“I’ve said in the last couple of years that play-offs are the aim and maybe I was being over-optimistic.
“I don’t know, but I like to set the targets high and why shouldn’t Farsley Celtic set their targets high”
“But, the crux of the matter is that we are competing against some big clubs and being realistic and sensible is me setting targets of bettering last season.”
The visit of Kendal Town for the opening day clash is a free admission game as part of the club’s celebrations at the return of the ‘Celtic’ part of their name.
Before kick off activities include five-a-side bubble football on the main pitch along with the spectacle of head shaving for charity.
Chief Executive Josh Greaves and head of media Rob Winterbottom are going bald for MacMillan Cancer Support’s campaign ‘Brave the Shave’.
