Hemsworth manager Wayne Benn is putting his players under no pressure ahead of the FA Cup tie with Armthorpe

Wayne Benn believes Hemsworth Miners Welfare are “capable” of causing an Emirates FA Cup upset, but he doesn’t want to apply pressure on his young players.

The Toolstation NCEL Division One side are hosting Premier Division outfit Armthorpe Welfare in the Extra Preliminary Round tie tomorrow.

Benn, the former Bradford (Park Avenue) captain, who played in the First Round proper in 2003, accepts that his side have a great chance of progression.

“We have got an opportunity this season,” he said.

“We have Armthorpe at home and they are a team that we are capable of beating, but they will feel exactly the same.

“They’ll come and see it as a winnable game. Then there’s a nice prize of New Mills at home for the winner.

“We want to try and have a good run in the FA Cup and Vase.

“But, the FA Cup is about enjoying it.

“Not every footballer gets to play in the FA Cup and I know we are starting really early in the first possible round, but there’s nothing to say we can’t go on a run of two or three games.

“It is about embracing the competition and getting to go to bigger and better grounds along with the financial aspect of it.

“The financial rewards are important, but we don’t want our players going on the pitch thinking the weight of the world is on their shoulders.

“We generally tell our lads to enjoy every game and the FA Cup is no different.

“It is about taking the pressure off and letting them go and enjoy themselves. We know if we play to our potential we can beat Armthorpe.”
