Farsley Celtic were charitable in more ways than one on the opening day of the Evo Stik Division One North season following the 3-0 defeat to Kendal Town at Throstle Nest.
Over 400 people took advantage of Farsley’s free admission offer which was part of their celebrations at getting their ‘Celtic’ name.
Most then watched chief executive Josh Greaves and head of media Rob Winterbottom have their heads shaved for MacMillan Cancer Support’s campaign ‘Brave the Shave’ on the pitch before the game.
Instead of following their officials in going bald for charity, Farsley’s players donated to Kendal by giving them a goal after just 22 seconds.
Debutant Harley Wigley’s back-pass went wrong and danger man Jordan Connerton intercepted the ball and while Tom Taylor saved the effort, Ben Thomas scored from the rebound.
During the first half, Farsley’s Nick Guest and Leon Osbourne went close. Taylor also saved a point blank header from Kendal’s Craig Carney.
But, more misery followed in the second half for Farsley as a slip from James Riley allowed Tom Killfin to score.
Then as quick as a flash, Sam Bally caught Taylor out with a free kick from the halfway line to round off an impressive victory for Kendal.
