Paul Stansfield got off the mark as Knaresborough Town manager after his side saw off Toolstation NCEL Division One newcomers Westella VIP at Manse Lane.

Knaresborough narrowly won 2-1 after former Glasshoughton defender Ally Wilson headed home a late winner for the North Yorkshire-based side.

Stansfield’s men, who lost their first two games, went in front after young striker Brad Walker got ahead of the Westella defence on the stroke of half-time.

Westella did not mess about with regards finding an equaliser. Alex Wood did the groundwork after going clear through on goal – Gaz Flounders was the goal-scorer as he fired the ball into the roof of the net.

The visitors had chances to rack up another NCEL victory, but Knaresborough held on and stole the spoils when Wilson rose the highest to score.”
