John Reed is leaving his Ossett Town team in safe hands tomorrow when his side travel to Kendal Town without him.

Assistants John Francis and Dave Merris are the helm of the Evo Stik Division One North side as Reed is acting as the father of the bride at his daughter’s wedding.

“I’m hoping they can continue the good work,” said Reed, whose side won 2-1 at Brighouse Town on Monday night after Nathan Curtis’ last minute header.

“I’m confident we can get a result if we play with the same desire and passion that we showed in the first half at Brighouse.

“I won’t be there as I’m at my daughter’s wedding.

“My daughter gets married at twelve and we’ll be eating by three, but I’ll be telling (secretary) Neil (Spofforth) that my phone will be on from quarter to five and I’ll be expecting an update.

“I have got to hide my phone as my wife says I can’t take it in with me.”

The victory at Brighouse was the perfect response to the 4-0 opening day defeat to Northwich Victoria.

New signing David Brown fired Ossett ahead inside the opening three minutes before Steve Hollingworth equalised for Brighouse.

A draw was on the cards until Curtis scored the winner.

Reed added: “Saturday finished 4-0, but it was never a 4-0 defeat.

“We defended poorly for three of the goals and missed six chances.

“4-0 looks like a shocker, but we didn’t play too badly.

“A few of our lads expected me to make changes on Monday night because of the defeat, but I just said that they had to go and prove to everyone that we are a better side than that scoreline suggests.

“I thought they were fantastic and for 35 minutes how we zipped the ball around was fantastic.

“It was a great start with Brownie’s goal, but I did think it was harsh on Brighouse in the second half.

“A fair result would have been one-a-piece if I’m being honest.”

The Ossett manager also confirmed that he hopes to add at least two more players to his squad in the next few weeks.
