Paul Quinn refused to be downbeat after Brighouse Town’s 2-1 defeat to Ossett Town on Monday.
An unmarked Nathan Curtis headed the last gasp winner for Ossett in the Evo Stik Division One North clash, despite the amount of possession Brighouse had enjoyed in the second half.
Quinn said: “It was a bit of disappointing finish and personally I thought we had done enough in the second half to take at least a point out of the game.
“It was a reckless 30 seconds and it cost us. We warned the players that set-pieces were Ossett’s strength and we needed to make sure we didn’t concede in stupid areas and we stood up strong and defended them.
“It is disappointing to conceded so late on, but there were some promising signs in the second half.
“We perhaps didn’t have that cutting edge we needed in the final third.
“I think anyone watching will have seen that they only got in our box three times in the second half.
“We had lots of possession and we looked threatening.
“It’s early on in the season and we’ll learn from it and move on.”
Brighouse have one point from two games following the draw at Trafford last Saturday.
A visit from Harrogate Railway is next up for them tomorrow.
Quinn added: “We just have to patience as it is early days.
“We have good players here and we’re learning, the first win will come.
“Harrogate are a bit of an unknown quantity because they are much-changed from last year.
“They will be well-organised and it will be another good game.”
