Parkgate manager Steve Adams believes the defeat to AFC Emley was a one off

Steve Adams hopes Parkgate can put the heavy Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round defeat to AFC Emley behind them tomorrow.

Parkgate were top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division table when they lost 7-1 at Emley on Sunday afternoon.

That mainly because Adams had seven of his main starting eleven missing because of other commitments which meant his side could not follow their incredible victory at Tadcaster.

Parkgate now host Bridlington Town tomorrow and Adams wants his side to move on.

“Our league form is good and we’re playing well,” he told Non League Yorkshire.

“When we have everyone available and up and at it we’re a good side.

“Based on the Emley game, people will think we’re in a false position.

“We don’t think we are as we won both games pretty well, especially against Tadcaster.

“Going top with the Tadcaster win clearly did not create enough excitement because too many players were missing against Emley.

“I was excited as was Gary Middleton, but to be fair the FA knew we were struggling to put out a side because it was a Sunday fixture.

“You have to look upon on Sunday as a one-off because of so many players being unavailable as they didn’t expect to have to play on Sunday.

“We have just got to start again tomorrow.”

Parkgate enjoyed a tremendous start, beating Brigg Town and Tadcaster to go top after two games.

That defied pre-season predictions of a season of struggle.

Adams insists his side don’t intend to fighting it out at the bottom end and they hoping to finish higher up the table.

“The aims are to finish as high as we can and consolidate the good start we have had,” he added.

“We will be strengthening the side as the season goes on and we are actively looking for players.

“It is a difficult time of the year to sign players and we could have probably done with doing more business in pre-season.

“We haven’t got the budget that other teams though.

“It has been tough because we lost a few players like you’re always going to do and we have missed out on several players who would have made us a better team.”
