Back to his best: Ash Flynn celebrates his first of four goals against Parkgate

Darren Hepworth believes Ash Flynn has recaptured the form he showed for AFC Emley two years ago.

The striker has stole the headlines with ten goals in four games to quickly the erase the memories of a poor campaign last season.

Flynn scored 42 goals in the 2012-13 season for Emley before moving onto Shaw Lane Aquaforce and then briefly Frickley Athletic.

He returned to Emley last September, but struggled to score and had fitness problems.

Hepworth said: “He has had a great pre-season.

“He has worked hard on his fitness so he came into pre-season looking sharp and he worked through pre-season and his recent goals are the end result of hard work.

“He’s been as good as he was when he was here the first time round when he got himself 42 goals.

“He’s to the player he was. I’d love him to score as many goals again.

“The way we play and with someone like Ash Flynn in your team, you stand a chance against anyone.”

Flynn will be hoping to further add to his tally at struggling Lincoln Moorlands Railway tomorrow when Hepworth is hoping his side build on their first Toolstation NCEL Division One win of the campaign.

Emley cruised to a 4-1 victory over Hall Road Rangers on Wednesday night.

It was a great performance, but Hepworth did have one disappointment.

“We had a lot of chances and I felt we weren’t as ruthless as we could have been in the second half,” he said.

“We should have put the game well out of sight and to make matters worse we switched off on the goal and it took the gloss off what was overall a good performance.

“We switched off for a moment. We’re setting a high bar this year and it is something we need to iron out.

“What I was looking for was for us to start our season. We didn’t quite get firing at Rossington, but we did on Wednesday.”

  1. Scrivens and Coduri are the two players you need to watch for emley. Both capable of stepping up and playing higher and both are only young. I can’t see them been at Emley this time next year, but I hope so.
