Leaders Stocksbridge Park Steels maintained their impressive start by beating Carlton Town 2-1 at Bracken Moor last night.
Chris Hilton’s Stocksbridge have now won all of their opening four Evo Stik Division One South matches and four points clear at the summit.
Stocksbridge made sure they were on their way to another win by scoring twice in the opening half-an-hour.
Midfielder Richard Stirrup set the opener with some good play which allowed Corey Gregory to score from close range.
The hero of Basford Adam Hinchliffe slotted home the second goal with a composed finish.
The Steels probably should have finished Carlton off in the first half as Gregory and Hinchcliffe had other good opportunities.
Harrison Biggins hit the crossbar in the second half and Stocksbridge held on comfortably. A Gordon goal did the reduce the deficit, but the Steels refused to relinquish the points.
