Max Leonard’s transfer to Pontefract Collieries from AFC Emley is likely to go through today.
Emley waived Pontefract’s seven-days-notice claim on Monday, but the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division outfit were unable to complete the deal in time for the vist of Athersley Recreation last night.
Pontefract hope to add the finishing touches to the paperwork today.
The former Huddersfield Town youngster is someone who Duncan Bray, Russ Eagle and Nick Handley have wanted to recruit for a while.
Bray said: “He’s a class player and he’s someone we have played against and have had real problems trying to contain him.
“He’s going to strengthen us and he has the quality that we want.
“There’s a couple of players we have been keeping our eye on for a few years and the opportunity has never been there.
“We have a couple of his mates from Huddersfield here and they told there was an opportunity and we have grabbed it.”
Leonard will have to wait until next Wednesday to make his Pontefract debut at Parkgate as he is cup-tied for their trip to Runcorn Linnets for the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round on Saturday.
