Nostell Miners Welfare pulled off another shock victory – this time in extraordinary circumstances.
Nostell had to play with left-back Wayne Ball in goal for over 80 minutes, but still managed to win 3-1 at top five chasers Bridlington Town.
Goalkeeper Ben Saynor’s nightmare weekend began with his car breaking down on Friday night.
To compound his bad luck he was taken off after just four minutes at Queensgate with a broken hand.
Some would have feared the worst for Nostell as Paul Lines’ men hadn’t scored since the opening day of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season – a total of five matches.
However, that stat soon went out of the window as Lee Turner was able to fire them ahead with a quarter of the match gone.
Dual-registered Brighouse Town striker Tom Robinson then struck two quick-fire goals to put Nostell into an unbelievable position.
Bridlington captain Ash Allanson did get a goal back for his side on the stroke of half-time, but Nostell, a side developing a reputation for been hard to break down, kept at bay with an impressive defensive second half display.
