Shaw Lane Aquaforce were surprisingly bundled out of the Emirates FA Cup after losing 2-1 at lower league Alsager Town in the Preliminary Round tie.
Two goals in the opening ten minutes gave Aquaforce a mountain to climb and Craig Elliott’s men were unable to rescue themselves from the situation.
Jake Chadwick set Alsager on their way with a side-footed finish from a corner. Their shock lead was then extended as Jonathan Crane’s volley was mis-judged by goalkeeper Ian Deakin and landed in the net.
Shaw Lane went for broke and quickly reduced the deficit when Lee Morris got round the Alsager goalkeeper.
Morris almost equalised on the stroke of half-time, but his goal-bound shot at point blank range was saved.
Somehow Alsager held on during the second half. Even in the final minutes, home goalkeeper Krystian Burzski refused to be beaten as he diverted Muhammad Sabo’s thunderbolt over the crossbar.
Shaw Lane Aquaforce: Deakin, Stohrer, Meynell, Holt, Sabo, Priestley, Thornton, Foster (captain), Istead, Eyles, Morris. Subs: Bennett, Wafula, Thornhill, Cotterill, Walker, Rusling, Davidson.
